According to the National Sleep Foundation, if left untreated, those who have a medical condition called sleep apnea are at risk for stokes, high blood pressure, heart attacks and motor vehicle crashes. In fact, the direct and indirect effects of sleep disorders and daytime sleepiness are estimated to cost the national economy $100 billion annually.
If you think you or a loved one suffer from sleep apnea, episodes where you stop breathing for seconds at a time while asleep, contact your physician immediately. If you have already been treated for sleep apnea using a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, make plans to attend the upcoming, free CPAP clinic.
